A is for #Autopsy – going back to around 300BC Herophilus of Chalcedon was performing autopsies but it wasn’t until 44BC when Julius Caesar died of 23 stab wounds that the first official autopsy was recorded, performed by Antistius. There was a bit of a rocky time when it was illegal to conduct an autopsy but that soon passed and by the Middle Ages criminal’s bodies were being autopsied on a regular basis. Victorian times saw Burke and Hare making a good living out of murdering people to supply anatomists with cadavers. As a response the 1832 act was passed to allow people to donate their #bodies for #dissection. And now we see it most days on our TVs if we aren’t very careful!
